Description
Milo is a versatile, gluten-free, and non-GMO grain that is a staple in livestock rations across the world. Nutritionally, it is very similar to corn but typically contains a slightly higher protein level. Because of its small, hard seed coat, Milo is highly resistant to pests and weather damage while in storage, making it a reliable year-round feed source.
For poultry, Milo is a favorite ingredient in “scratch” mixes, encouraging natural foraging and pecking. In cattle and swine diets, it provides the starch necessary for efficient weight gain and energy. It is also a primary component in wild bird seed, attracting ground-feeding species like doves, quail, and turkeys. While it can be fed whole to birds, for maximum nutrient absorption in ruminants, it is often recommended to be cracked or rolled.
